President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to immediately review and reduce the 2026 Hajj fares, following the continued appreciation of the naira against the dollar. Vice President Kashim Shettima has given the Commission two days to present a new and affordable fare structure that will ease the financial burden on intending pilgrims.

Vice President Shettima, who conveyed the President’s directive during a meeting with NAHCON officials at the Presidential Villa, emphasized the need for strong coordination between federal and state officials to ensure a smooth implementation. He also called for timely remittance of all payments to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to guarantee a hitch-free Hajj operation.

NAHCON Secretary, Dr. Mustapha Mohammad, described the President’s directive as a welcome development that will allow more Muslims to fulfill the sacred obligation of Hajj. Similarly, state pilgrims’ welfare board leaders expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their intervention, saying the directive would significantly reduce costs and encourage wider participation in the 2026 pilgrimage.
