President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate review of security operations in Katsina State following renewed bandit attacks, assuring that the federal government will strengthen surveillance, deploy more advanced military hardware, and enhance the capacity of newly established forest guards.
Speaking on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation of Katsina leaders led by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, the President said the federal government is considering the establishment of state police to address peculiar security challenges. He stressed that policing at the grassroots is vital, as security outfits familiar with local terrain and culture are better equipped to protect communities.
President Tinubu directed all security agencies to provide daily updates on operations in Katsina, adding that the government has approved the acquisition of additional drones. He assured the delegation that insecurity will be defeated and reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding lives, livelihoods, places of worship, and recreational spaces. The President also pledged that former President Muhammadu Buhari would be immortalised in recognition of his contributions to the nation.
Governor Radda expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his consistent support to Katsina State, citing federal appointments for indigenes and ongoing infrastructure projects. He appealed for more assistance in security, youth empowerment, and development. Former Governor Aminu Bello Masari also thanked the President for honouring the late Buhari with a state funeral, while the Waziri of Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, commended progress on the Kano-Maradi Rail project and called for an upgrade of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport.
