President Tinubu Pledges Full Support for Presidential Power Initiative to Improve Electricity and Livelihoods

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday in Abuja, assured Siemens Energy, the contractor handling the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), of the government’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s electricity supply and enhancing citizens’ livelihoods. He emphasized that reliable power is critical for industrial growth, education, healthcare, and economic development, and directed the expansion of key transformer substations to boost supply.

Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, and Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen attended the meeting. President Tinubu praised Siemens and the German government for their partnership, noting that the PPI will position Nigeria as a leading power hub in Africa.

Power Minister Adelabu highlighted achievements in the sector, including infrastructure upgrades, activation of 15 state electricity markets, and the signing of the Electricity Act 2023. The PPI’s Pilot Phase has added 984MW of transmission capacity, while Phase One-Batch One involves upgrading five substations, with two targeted for completion by the end of 2026. Phase One-Batch Two will include 16 additional substations with a cumulative impact of 4,104MW.

Siemens Energy’s delegation confirmed the project will create jobs, develop local talent, and transfer technology, transforming Nigeria into a regional power hub. The German government pledged continued support.
