
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged the swift implementation of bilateral agreements reached between Nigeria and Colombia during the official visit of Colombian Vice President Francia Márquez to Abuja. The President, who received the delegation at the State House, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with Colombia, stressing the importance of expanding global partnerships to match the realities of shifting economic and cultural dynamics.
Highlighting existing agreements between Nigeria and Brazil, President Tinubu noted that similar frameworks in aviation and consular relations could be replicated with Colombia to advance cooperation. He directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expedite follow-up processes and urged business leaders from both countries to explore opportunities in Nigeria’s oil, gas, agriculture, and creative sectors. The President emphasized Nigeria’s youthful population as a critical driver of growth and a major attraction for foreign investment.
During the visit, Nigeria and Colombia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations, which provides for regular dialogue and easier visa facilitation for Colombian diplomats. Vice President Kashim Shettima called on the private sector to take advantage of opportunities across trade, agriculture, energy, and culture. In her remarks, Vice President Márquez described Nigeria as a strategic partner, citing areas such as renewable energy, education, cultural exchanges, and social justice as key areas of future collaboration.
