The Federal Government has restated its determination to complete the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano expressway within 14 months, describing it as a legacy project under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The ₦761 billion reconstruction covers three sections stretching from Abuja to Kano and is being executed to meet modern standards that will serve Nigerians for generations.
According to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, Sections 1 and 3, totaling 118 kilometers and valued at ₦252 billion, have already received about 30 percent funding (₦60 billion) following presidential approval. Section 2, which spans 72 kilometers, combines asphalt pavement for 15 kilometers with reinforced concrete for the remaining stretch and is valued at ₦507 billion, with over ₦150 billion already disbursed.
Umahi emphasized that the project has been tagged “Rebuilding Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Road by President Bola Tinubu” to highlight the administration’s focus on delivering quality infrastructure. He noted that unlike many past projects that dragged on for years, this road is being constructed to last more than 100 years, reflecting the government’s priority on durability and value.
The Minister also urged contractors to ensure high standards and adhere strictly to the delivery timeline. While the rainy season has caused minor delays, directives have been issued to speed up construction so the expressway can be completed on schedule and provide lasting socio-economic benefits to the region and the country at large.
