President Bola Tinubu has introduced a major cost-saving directive, limiting ministers, ministers of state, and heads of federal agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys. This move is part of a broader initiative to reduce government expenditure.

The President’s directive, announced today in a statement signed by his office, restricts these officials from using additional vehicles for movement beyond the specified limit. This marks a continuation of Tinubu’s efforts to streamline government operations and reduce wasteful spending.

Earlier this year, the President had already slashed his own entourage for foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials, and for local trips, he reduced it to 25. Similarly, the Vice President’s entourage was limited to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local trips.

In addition to vehicle restrictions, Tinubu ordered that ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies are to have no more than five security personnel—four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer—attached to them. The President stressed that no further security personnel or vehicles will be allocated beyond these limits.

Furthermore, Tinubu instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with the Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies to establish a reasonable reduction in their vehicle usage and security personnel deployment.

The affected officials are expected to comply with the new measures immediately, reflecting the President’s commitment to fiscal discipline. These actions are part of a larger effort to curtail excessive government spending while promoting efficiency in governance.
