President Bola Tinubu arrived back in Nigeria early Friday morning at approximately 2:25 a.m. local time, following a brief working visit to France. The President landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, having departed for France earlier in the week on Monday.
His return comes in anticipation of a significant event scheduled for later on Friday at the State House. President Tinubu is set to swear in Nigeria’s new Chief Justice (CJN) in a formal ceremony. This follows the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on August 22, 2024.
The National Judicial Council (NJC) had recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the next Chief Justice during its 106th meeting on August 15. President Tinubu is expected to officially confirm this recommendation during the swearing-in ceremony at the Council Chambers.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, confirmed in a statement that Justice Ariwoola’s successor would be inaugurated on August 23, 2024.
The appointment marks a significant step in Nigeria’s judicial leadership and is expected to shape the direction of the country’s legal system in the coming years.
