President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received strong backing from governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he intensifies efforts to address Nigeria’s worsening security challenges. Following a closed-door meeting held at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat in Abuja, the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, stated that the governors fully support the President’s push to reform the nation’s security architecture.
A key point of consensus during the meeting was the growing call for the establishment of state police as a more responsive and locally grounded solution to insecurity. This position was notably advanced by Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia during President Tinubu’s recent visit to the state, where he advocated for the adoption of state policing backed by clear operational guidelines to prevent potential abuse of power.
The high-level meeting was attended by several APC governors, alongside top federal security officials including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru. The deliberations focused on practical steps to strengthen internal security and improve coordination between federal and state authorities.
As insecurity continues to pose grave threats across many regions of the country, the APC governors reiterated their unwavering support for President Tinubu’s leadership. They emphasized that empowering states with the tools and authority to protect their citizens is a crucial step toward restoring lasting peace, safeguarding communities, and reinforcing the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
