President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a heartfelt message to the Super Falcons as they prepare to face Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Commending their journey so far, the President described the team’s performance over the past three weeks as awe-inspiring, praising them for representing Nigeria with pride, honour, and strength both on and off the pitch.
He particularly applauded their display of sportsmanship, referencing their compassionate visit to South Africa’s Gabriela Salgado after the semi-final clash, saying it reflected true African values of empathy and humanity.
“If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions,” the President declared, noting their unbeaten run, solid defence, and rich legacy, having won all previous nine WAFCON finals.
President Tinubu assured the team of the full backing of the nation, revealing that he had dispatched a presidential delegation to Rabat to show the government’s support and cheer them on to victory.
The delegation includes Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy Hannatu Musawa, Minister of State for Finance Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, and Chairman of the National Sports Commission Shehu Dikko.
The President also extended his appreciation to the families of the players, coaching crew, supporters in Morocco, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, and the Nigerian Mission in Morocco for standing by the team.
“You will finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home,” the President encouraged, adding that he looks forward to welcoming the players, the trophy, and team officials in Abuja.
