President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to unveil a revised National Counter-Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST) in October as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and violent extremism. The updated framework will address emerging security threats, enhance coordination among security agencies, and incorporate new approaches to intelligence gathering and community engagement.
According to security officials, the revised strategy places strong emphasis on prevention, de-radicalisation, and rehabilitation, while also ensuring that security operations are backed by modern technology and regional cooperation. The policy is expected to give Nigeria a more robust and flexible response to the evolving tactics of terrorist groups across the Sahel and within the country.
The move aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on national security, which prioritises the protection of citizens, economic stability, and peace-building. By launching the revised counter-terrorism strategy, the administration aims to demonstrate its resolve to eliminate terrorism while fostering public trust and ensuring that communities are active partners in the fight against insecurity.
