President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the 10th National Industrial Labour Relations Summit on Tuesday in Ilorin, Kwara State. Organized by the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), the event seeks to advance the agenda for industrial harmony in Nigeria.

The summit, themed “The Future of Work and Renewed Hope Agenda: Issues and Perspectives”, will host key stakeholders in the nation’s labour relations system, including the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who also serves as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

Addressing a news conference, MINILS Director General, Comrade Issa Aremu, emphasized the summit’s focus on fostering industrial peace, productivity, and economic growth. “Industrial harmony can engender peace, increased productivity, and boost economic development,” Aremu stated through Mrs. Olaide Ajiboye, Director of Social Protection at MINILS.

The summit will bring together hundreds of participants, including representatives from organized labour, employers, youths, women, students of labour relations, civil society, and people with disabilities from both public and private sectors.

Key discussions will cover employment, decent work promotion, occupational safety, and productivity enhancement. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, will lead the discourse, with contributions from notable labour leaders such as Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Comrade Joseph Ajaero and Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Comrade Festus Osifo.

Aremu noted that the event also serves as a platform to reflect on the government’s labour agenda, focusing on job creation, workers’ motivation, and national productivity. A highlight of the summit will be the conferment of Fellowships of the National Labour Institute (FNLI) on notable labour market figures, including Governors Uba Sanni (Kaduna), Alex Otti (Abia), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, among others.

This gathering underscores the government’s commitment to fostering constructive dialogue and advancing labour relations for sustainable national development.
