President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is set to deliver 77,400 housing units across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas as part of the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme, a transformative initiative expected to generate over two million direct and indirect jobs. The Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, made this known during a session with the House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitat in Abuja.

Under this plan, 100 housing units will be constructed in each local government area, with each site expected to engage a minimum of 27 workers. The job creation component cuts across skilled and unskilled labour, stimulating rural economies and empowering local communities. Dangiwa also disclosed that the funding will be sourced from the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, with a formal framework awaiting final approval by President Tinubu. A legislative bill is also being prepared to establish a National Social Housing Fund to ensure sustainability of the programme.

The scheme targets low-income earners, the unemployed, the vulnerable, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Already, housing sites in Karsana (FCT), Kano, and Lagos are nearing completion. The Karsana site is expected to be commissioned by the end of August, despite slight delays due to ongoing road construction. Additionally, subscribers have begun securing homes, and developers are expected to recoup investments through structured payment systems.

The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is a flagship component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit while tackling unemployment and poverty. It reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and economic revitalization through housing-led growth.
