President Bola Tinubu, in a bold endorsement of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeled opposition members in Nigeria as “reactionary politicians” during a high-stakes campaign rally in Akure. The rally, which marked the grand finale of the APC’s campaign efforts, was held in support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the party’s candidate in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election on Saturday.

Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, urged voters to support the APC for continued growth in the South-West region, stressing that voting for APC means endorsing progress and sustainable development. He questioned the crowd, asking if past Ondo leaders, both deceased and living, would have supported an opposition or “reactionary” party. “If Ajasin were still alive, would he vote for the APC or a reactionary party? If Akeredolu were here, would he support the APC or the opposition?” Tinubu asked, referencing prominent former governors of the state.

In addition to rallying support, Tinubu announced the approval of a federal teaching hospital for Ondo State, a project he said would strengthen healthcare access for residents. “Ondo State has two senior ministers,” he noted, “and to whom much is given, much is expected.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa, the APC candidate, reaffirmed his dedication to Ondo’s development, pledging to continue the legacy of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, to whom he was deeply loyal. “I assure the people that I will work tirelessly for the progress of Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa stated.

The rally saw strong support from prominent APC figures. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence in an APC victory across all 18 local government areas, while Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, head of the APC Campaign Council for Ondo, advised supporters to avoid confrontation with the opposition, emphasizing the power of their votes instead. “Let’s speak with our votes for APC,” Sanwo-Olu encouraged.

National APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje also voiced his support for Aiyedatiwa’s campaign, formally presenting the party’s flag to Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Dr. Olayide Adelami, symbolizing the party’s united front.

As Saturday’s election approaches, APC leaders have intensified efforts to consolidate support, positioning the party as the only viable choice for Ondo’s future.
