President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have reinforced Nigeria’s climate leadership in West Africa by submitting the country’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Vice President Shettima is set to unveil Nigeria’s Green Transition Roadmap at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, highlighting the administration’s commitment to turning climate commitments into actionable investments and projects.

Under the guidance of President Tinubu, Nigeria has also approved the National Carbon Market Framework and operationalized the National Climate Change Fund, providing clear policy direction for high-integrity carbon investments. These initiatives, along with NDC 3.0, are intended to attract global funding, technical partnerships, and sustainable development projects that benefit both the environment and local communities.

Presidential spokesperson Stanley Nkwocha noted that Nigeria’s participation at COP30 underscores the administration’s dedication to the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13 on climate action. The government remains on track to reduce emissions by 32 percent by 2035 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, signaling a greener, more resilient, and investment-driven climate future under the leadership of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.
