The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disbursed a total of ₦1.6 trillion to Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between March 2024 and May 2025. The funds, sourced from non-oil revenue savings, are aimed at supporting critical infrastructure development and enhancing security at the subnational level.

According to records from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, ₦1.6 trillion out of ₦1.7 trillion saved was disbursed in 21 separate payments, including a peak release of ₦222 billion in May 2024. As of mid-May 2025, ₦100 billion remains in reserve. The disbursement is part of the Infrastructure Support Fund (ISF) introduced and approved by President Tinubu in July 2023 to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal and promote grassroots development.

The initiative is targeted at key sectors such as roads, healthcare, education, and internal security. While the disbursements mark a significant financial commitment from the federal government, civil society organizations have called for greater transparency and clearer evidence of impact on ground. Nonetheless, the move reflects the Tinubu administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s development framework and improve service delivery nationwide.
