President Tinubu’s Administration Flags Off Concessionary Auto CNG Pricing Framework to Drive Affordable Clean Mobility

In a bold step to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to clean and affordable energy, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially launched a nationwide Concessionary Pricing Framework for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). This initiative, driven by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), was unveiled at a flag-off ceremony held in Abuja.

The framework introduces a special strategic pricing structure for autogas CNG, positioning it significantly lower than the rates for industrial or power-sector gas. This pricing advantage is part of President Tinubu’s deliberate policy to encourage widespread adoption of CNG-powered vehicles and eliminate gas arbitrage in the market.

Since its establishment last year, the PCNGI has overseen remarkable growth in the CNG ecosystem, expanding from just 20 daughter stations to over 65 across the country. Major private sector stakeholders, including the Dangote Group, have committed to further investments, reflecting the strong momentum behind the initiative. The Tinubu administration is targeting the deployment of at least one million CNG vehicles by 2027.

This move aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting sustainable transportation, reducing energy costs for Nigerians, supporting environmental goals, and mobilizing public-private partnerships to scale up infrastructure development.
