The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced significant milestones in its national security and anti-corruption efforts, signaling strong momentum in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

At the August edition of the Joint Security and Anti-Corruption Briefing held in Abuja, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, presented an overview of coordinated achievements recorded across various security and law enforcement agencies over the past month.

According to the report, over ₦21 billion has been successfully recovered from corruption-linked sources, while ₦319.5 billion in assets were saved from fire incidents through enhanced response capabilities by the Federal Fire Service.

In the fight against terrorism, 78 terrorists were neutralized across several regions, while multiple illegal refineries, weapons caches, and oil theft operations were dismantled through joint task force missions. The Nigerian Police Force recorded 326 successful operations, leading to 2,109 arrests, the dismantling of six major arms trafficking networks, and the rescue of several kidnap victims.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intensified its war against narcotics with 1,572 raids, resulting in the seizure of approximately 2.9 million kilograms of illicit drugs, including tramadol and methamphetamine.

In its peacebuilding and civil protection role, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) resolved over 720 community-level conflicts, enhancing stability across vulnerable regions. The Federal Fire Service, in addition to safeguarding lives and property, reported a significant improvement in emergency response times nationwide.

The anti-corruption front also saw strong engagement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which conducted 352 advocacy events reaching over 209,000 citizens, recovered additional funds including $1 million, and continued implementation of reforms aimed at removing Nigeria from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.

The NOA, in its role as the federal agency for civic education and public sensitization, issued 87 official advisories to counter fake news and reinforce trust in public institutions.

The federal government attributed these results to renewed coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and the leadership of President Tinubu, who has consistently emphasized accountability, transparency, and the rule of law as key pillars of his administration.

These gains, officials noted, reflect not only operational success but also growing public confidence in the government’s capacity to secure the country, fight corruption, and deliver meaningful reform. The administration has reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum and expanding the scope of reforms to reach more communities across the federation.
