The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced a major milestone in the implementation of the Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project with the successful horizontal directional drilling (HDD) crossing of the River Niger. This breakthrough significantly boosts the prospects for the timely completion of the project by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Speaking at the 24th NOG Energy Week in Abuja, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, attributed the achievement to effective contract reengineering, innovation, and strong collaboration across the energy industry. He emphasized that the AKK Pipeline remains a flagship project under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at deepening domestic gas utilization and driving industrial growth across the northern corridor.

In another significant development, Ojulari disclosed that for the first time in recent memory, Nigeria recorded 100 percent availability of its major crude oil pipelines throughout June 2025. He credited this success to enhanced industry wide security interventions championed by NNPC Ltd, which have contributed to stabilizing and boosting crude oil production.

The GCEO further highlighted that the consistent fulfillment of cash call obligations by NNPC Ltd to Joint Venture operations has improved investor confidence and project execution. He noted that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA 2021), fully activated under President Tinubu’s leadership, has empowered the national oil company to take the lead in financing critical oil and gas infrastructure.

Engr. Ojulari concluded by expressing his desire for the NOG Energy Week to evolve from a policy talk shop to a results driven platform where performances are celebrated and investment agreements are sealed in line with President Tinubu’s drive for efficiency, accountability, and real sector impact in the oil and gas industry.
