Nigeria and Brazil have officially launched the second session of their Strategic Dialogue Mechanism in Abuja, marking a new chapter in diplomatic and economic cooperation between both nations. The high-level engagement coincides with the arrival of Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, who is leading a strong delegation on a three-day working visit to Nigeria.
The dialogue is focused on deepening collaboration across key sectors, including defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy, health, education, and cultural exchange. The summit is expected to culminate in the signing of over 30 Memoranda of Understanding aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and accelerating development in critical areas.
Among those present to welcome the Brazilian delegation were the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia; the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the Nigerian government at the highest level, played host to the visiting dignitaries and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening South–South cooperation in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Nigerian delegation emphasized that Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial growth strongly aligns with Nigeria’s strategic development priorities.
This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s broader vision of building inclusive and productive international partnerships that contribute to national prosperity and sustainable development.
