Nigeria’s security forces have recorded a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against terrorism and banditry, neutralizing notorious terror leader Kachala Maidawa and 34 of his associates in a series of coordinated operations across multiple states.
The joint offensive, carried out between September 29 and October 4, involved the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), the Police, and hybrid security teams. Maidawa and 11 of his foot soldiers were killed in Kogi State, where they were reportedly planning to attack Isanlu in Yagba West Local Government Area.
Security operatives also rescued 22 kidnapped victims and arrested 32 suspects, while recovering a cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, hundreds of live rounds, and several motorcycles used by the criminals.
State governments, including Kwara, have confirmed Maidawa’s death following precision airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force in the forests along the Kogi–Kwara border.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been commended for his decisive national security strategy, which continues to yield results through enhanced inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, and increased operational efficiency. The latest success, analysts say, underscores the administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability across Nigeria’s troubled regions.
