The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is set to begin construction of renewable energy factories in Abuja’s Technology Village, marking a significant milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to driving industrial growth and sustainable development across Nigeria.

The 300-hectare facility will host factories dedicated to the production of solar panels, batteries, electric vehicles, and other clean energy technologies. This initiative, born out of a strategic partnership between NASENI and the Abuja Technology Village, will accelerate Nigeria’s energy transition, promote local manufacturing, and reduce dependence on imported technologies. According to NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the goal is to convert the agency’s many research prototypes, over 35 of which are already commercially viable, into mass-market solutions including solar irrigation pumps, lithium-ion batteries, and home solar kits.

President Tinubu, who chairs NASENI’s Governing Board, has provided consistent leadership in advancing technological self-reliance. His administration previously commissioned NASENI’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion Centre in Abuja and directed federal agencies to adopt NASENI technologies in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda.

This factory construction represents another bold step in delivering on that agenda, deepening industrial capacity, creating jobs, and positioning Nigeria as a hub for green innovation and sustainable infrastructure.
