Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has challenged former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, to provide evidence to substantiate his claim that Makinde received ₦50 billion from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose had alleged that President Tinubu gave Makinde the sum following the January 2024 explosion in Ibadan, claiming the funds were provided as support but were not properly disclosed to the public. The allegation was made during a recent television interview.
Reacting to the claim, Makinde dismissed it as false and misleading, insisting that he never received such funds from the President. He described the allegation as baseless and urged Fayose to present proof if he had any.
Officials within the Oyo State Government also faulted Fayose’s statement, questioning his credibility and noting that there has been no official confirmation from the Presidency or the Federal Government regarding any ₦50bn donation to Oyo State.
The exchange has further heightened political tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), amid ongoing disagreements and alignments ahead of future political contests.
