Rasmus Højlund has confirmed he intends to make his stay at Napoli permanent after joining the Serie A champions from Manchester United on loan. The 22-year-old striker, who endured a difficult spell at Old Trafford, has quickly settled into Antonio Conte’s side and is already making an impression in Italy.

Højlund revealed that he turned down interest from AC Milan before ultimately agreeing to Napoli’s offer, which includes a conditional obligation to buy for €44 million (£38m/$51m) at the end of the season. Speaking to La Repubblica, the Danish forward expressed his happiness in Naples: “I also played in Austria before, after leaving Denmark as a child. At 22, I already have a lot of experience under my belt. But now I’m in Naples and I plan to stay. All I know is that I’m happy where I am: here in Naples.”

The young striker also said he is “eagerly awaiting” the opportunity to learn from Romelu Lukaku, who joined Napoli earlier in the summer. With Conte now boasting a formidable frontline, Højlund hopes the Belgian’s experience will help refine his game as he looks to establish himself in Serie A and rebuild his reputation after his Manchester United struggles.
