
The House of Representatives has passed a bill to establish the National Institute for Organic Agriculture and Food Safety Research in Ulonna North, Isuikwuato, Abia State.
Sponsored by Hon. Amobi Ogah and four others, the bill titled HB.1380 seeks to promote research on organic farming, food safety, and public health.
According to the report presented by Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, Chair of the House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, the institute will study how organic food affects non-communicable diseases, generate nutrition data, and support national dietary policies.
It will also provide training, grants, and technical assistance to promote sustainable farming and improve the quality and safety of organic foods nationwide.
The bill will now proceed to the Senate for concurrence before being sent to the President for assent.
