Heavy gunfire disrupted the electoral process in Rumuepirikom, the hometown of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The violence, which occurred as electoral officers were about to arrive at a polling ward, left residents in fear and forced many to stay indoors.

According to a local source, earlier in the day, unidentified individuals entered the community, warning people not to leave their homes for the polls. As the election process began, armed men arrived in the area, unleashing heavy gunfire that scattered the gathering crowd and disrupted the election.

Witnesses reported that the gunfire frightened voters, preventing them from coming out to participate in the election. One individual sustained a bullet injury during the incident and was immediately rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment. The identity and condition of the injured person are yet to be confirmed.

The situation has raised concerns about the safety of the electoral process in the area, and authorities are expected to take immediate action to restore order and ensure the safety of voters. As of now, there has been no official statement from the police or electoral commission regarding the attack.
