The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed that the Chief Judge of Rivers State has received official letters and accompanying documents detailing allegations of gross misconduct against Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor, and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

According to the Assembly, the correspondence—forwarded by the Speaker in line with Section 188(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)—formally requests the Chief Judge to constitute an investigative panel to examine the allegations. The House said all relevant notices and supporting documents were attached and duly delivered.

The confirmation comes amid heightened legal and political tension in the state. A Rivers State High Court had earlier issued an interim order restraining the Assembly and the Chief Judge from taking further steps in the impeachment process for a limited period, pending the hearing of substantive motions. Despite this, the Assembly maintains that it has acted strictly within constitutional provisions and urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding.

The lawmakers also cautioned against misinformation and actions capable of undermining democratic institutions, reiterating their commitment to due process and the rule of law as events continue to unfold.
