
The Head of the Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has resigned from his position.
His resignation, which comes amid the ongoing political transition in the state, was announced in a statement issued by the Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), and obtained by newsmen on Tuesday morning.
Ibas Acknowledges Nwaeke’s Contributions
Vice Admiral Ibas expressed appreciation for Nwaeke’s service, acknowledging his efforts during his brief tenure under the new administration.
“His Excellency, the Administrator appreciates the immense contributions he has shown this administration in the short period he served and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
New Secretary to the State Government Appointed
Following Nwaeke’s resignation, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
A statement from the Administrator’s office, also obtained on Tuesday morning, confirmed Worika’s appointment.
“His Excellency, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.) CFR, the Administrator of Rivers State, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG).”
Why Worika Was Chosen
The appointment of Professor Worika, a distinguished academic and policy expert, was based on his extensive experience in academia, international legal practice, and high-level policy advisory roles.
“His appointment follows careful consideration of his credentials, extensive experience, and performance during a rigorous selection process.”
The statement further emphasized that Worika’s expertise aligns with the administration’s vision of fostering peace, stability, and security in Rivers State.
“Professor Worika’s appointment reflects the administrator’s commitment to harnessing the great human capital of the Rivers people to work with him to achieve the much-needed peace, stability, and security.”
