Senator Ipalibo Banigo, who represents Rivers West Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Her defection was announced during plenary in the Senate after a letter conveying her decision was read on the floor of the chamber by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, the former Deputy Governor of Rivers State explained that her decision followed consultations with her constituents and political associates. She cited persistent internal divisions, leadership disputes, and ongoing litigations within the PDP as reasons for leaving the party.
Banigo stated that her move to the APC would enable her to better serve the interests of her constituency and contribute more effectively to national development.
The development marks another notable political realignment in the National Assembly, further strengthening the presence of the APC in the Senate.
