Roxettes Group, a leading Nigerian conglomerate with interests in automotive and manufacturing, is reportedly considering relocating some of its production facilities from the Southeast region to Lagos amid growing concerns over insecurity and logistical challenges.
Sources familiar with the company’s operations say the management is reviewing the safety situation in parts of the Southeast, where its automotive subsidiary, Roxettes Motors, operates an assembly plant in Obu-Aku City, Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.
The proposed relocation, according to insiders, aims to safeguard investments, ensure the safety of personnel, and maintain production stability. “The company is deeply concerned about the persistent disruptions caused by insecurity and poor road access in the region,” one source disclosed.
Roxettes Group has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, in previous communications, the company reaffirmed its support for the Federal Government’s “Nigeria First” industrial policy and pledged to continue investing in local manufacturing.
If confirmed, the move would mark a significant shift for one of the few major firms still maintaining large-scale industrial operations in the Southeast, a region that has faced mounting security and infrastructural challenges in recent years.
Industry analysts say such a decision could further highlight the need for improved regional security to sustain Nigeria’s manufacturing revival efforts.
