
A Russian court has sentenced a man to 13 years in prison on treason charges for attempting to join the Ukrainian army, the FSB security service announced on Tuesday.
Since launching its full-scale military offensive in February 2022, Moscow has imprisoned dozens of Russians accused of collaborating with or supporting Kyiv’s forces.
According to the FSB, Artem Konstantinov, born in 2000, contacted the Ukrainian military via the Telegram messaging app and expressed his willingness to fight against Russian forces in Ukraine.
A court in the Arctic region of Murmansk found him guilty of treason and handed down the 13-year sentence, the FSB said in its statement.
