SAGLEV Electromobility, in partnership with Dongfeng Motor Corporation, has launched the MHERO 917 in Lagos West Africa’s first locally-assembled luxury electric SUV. This milestone marks a major step in Nigeria’s shift toward sustainable transportation and green industrial development.
Power Meets Luxury
The MHERO 917 blends military-grade engineering with civilian luxury, featuring:
Over 1,000 horsepower and quad-motor all-wheel drive (0–100 km/h in <4.2 sec)
Extreme off-road capability: 900 mm water-wading depth, crab-walking, adjustable ride height
Two powertrains: pure EV (450+ km range) and extended-range hybrid (up to 750 km)
The interior offers premium Nappa leather, massage seats, multiple digital displays, AR head-up display, a 16-speaker audio system, and air purification.
Built in Nigeria, Made for Africa
Assembled at SAGLEV’s new Ikorodu facility (initial capacity: 2,500 units/year), the MHERO 917 benefits from Nigeria’s zero-duty policy on EVs and supports the country’s push for domestic manufacturing.
“This is more than a vehicle it’s a movement,” said SAGLEV CEO Dr. Sam Faleye. “Africa can lead in electric mobility.”
Shaping Africa’s EV Landscape
SAGLEV plans to launch 16 EV models, including micro-EVs, buses, and trucks. Dongfeng’s Cherry Cao highlighted the MHERO’s M-ATS architecture, combining military toughness with luxury, tailored for Africa’s rugged terrains.
A Symbol of Progress
The MHERO 917 represents more than a product launch it reflects Nigeria’s growing role in sustainable innovation and Africa’s green tech future.
