Santos President Calls for Neymar’s Return After Al Hilal Exit

Santos FC president Marcelo Teixeira has made a public plea for Brazilian superstar Neymar to return to his boyhood club following the termination of his contract with Saudi side Al Hilal.

In a video posted on social media Tuesday, Teixeira urged the 32-year-old forward to come back to Santos, where he first rose to prominence in 2009.

“The time has come, Neymar. The time has come for you to return to your people. To your home, to our beloved club,” Teixeira said. “Welcome back, Ney boy! The Santos nation awaits you with open arms.”

While Teixeira did not confirm any official agreement, his message fueled speculation about Neymar’s potential return to Brazilian football.

The appeal comes a day after Neymar’s contract with Al Hilal was mutually terminated, ending an injury-ridden 18-month spell in Saudi Arabia. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star managed just seven appearances for Al Hilal since his high-profile move in August 2023, despite reportedly earning around $104 million per year.

Neymar previously made 225 appearances for Santos, scoring 136 goals before joining Barcelona in 2013. During his time at the Catalan club, he formed a legendary attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, winning the Champions League in 2015.

In 2017, Neymar became the world’s most expensive footballer when Paris Saint-Germain signed him for a record-breaking €220 million ($230 million). He went on to become Brazil’s all-time leading goal scorer with 79 goals in 128 international appearances, surpassing Santos legend Pelé.

With his future now uncertain, fans eagerly await Neymar’s next move—whether he will return to Santos or seek another high-profile challenge abroad.
