In a bid to strengthen the administration of justice and enhance operational efficiency, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has donated seven brand-new operational buses to the Lagos State Ministry of Justice. The presentation ceremony, facilitated through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), took place on August 1, 2025, at the State Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

The donation marks a significant step toward improving logistics and institutional support for legal operations in the state.

Strategic Allocation of Resources

Out of the seven buses, two have been designated for the transportation of offenders to and from courtrooms and correctional facilities an initiative aimed at curbing delays and ensuring safety during transit.

Another two buses are allocated to the Special Taskforce on Human Trafficking, supporting their operational reach across Lagos. The remaining three vehicles will serve the legal teams and administrative staff, facilitating mobility to remote locations and high-demand jurisdictions where access to justice is often challenged by logistics.

Commitment to Institutional Support

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), lauded the gesture as a timely intervention that will ease the burden on legal officers and accelerate case management.

“This donation is a significant boost to our capacity to deliver justice efficiently and safely. It will not only facilitate access to courts but also improve collaboration among our teams,” he said.

The Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, emphasized that this marks the first direct support the Fund is providing to the Ministry of Justice, noting that the intersection between security and justice cannot be overstated.

“Security is not complete without access to timely and effective justice. This intervention speaks directly to that goal,” Balogun stated.

Also present at the event, Controller of Corrections, Lagos Command, George Daramola, praised the government’s move, describing the allocation for offender transport as a “lifeline” that will ease the logistics of daily court operations.

Hameed Oyenuga, Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, assured the public that the vehicles would be strategically deployed to optimize service delivery across all arms of the justice system.

A Step Toward Justice Reform

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s donation is part of a broader effort to reform and modernize justice delivery mechanisms in Lagos State. The move is expected to reduce case backlogs, improve access to legal services, and enhance the overall efficiency of the justice sector.

It reflects the administration’s continued commitment to building a secure, just, and responsive society.
