Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has hailed the Lagos Blue Line Rail as a landmark achievement in the state’s transport sector, announcing that the system has successfully moved over five million passengers in just two years of operation.

Speaking at an event to mark the rail line’s second anniversary on September 4, 2025, the governor described the feat as proof of Lagos’ commitment to modern, safe, and efficient mass transit. He noted that the Blue Line has maintained a zero-accident record since its launch, underscoring the reliability and safety of the service.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the Blue Line now operates with 10-minute intervals between trains, completing more than 90 trips daily. This improved frequency, he said, has significantly eased commuting for thousands of Lagos residents.

As part of the celebrations, the state government announced a 50% fare reduction on all Blue Line services, effective September 4, 2025, giving commuters a chance to enjoy discounted rides while marking the milestone.

The Blue Line, which began operations on September 4, 2023, currently runs from Marina to Mile 2, covering about 13 kilometers. It is the first completed phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project, designed to reduce traffic congestion and transform public transportation in Africa’s largest city.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the next phase of the project and expanding rail connectivity across Lagos, with the Red Line Rail also nearing full operations.

“The Blue Line represents progress, safety, and convenience for Lagosians. We are proud of what has been achieved in two years, and we will continue to invest in infrastructure that improves lives,” the governor said.
