The Senate has confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence. His confirmation followed a rigorous screening session on Wednesday, during which lawmakers asked him extensive questions on national security, defence strategy, and the state of the armed forces.
The confirmation was carried out through a voice vote after senators unanimously agreed that the nominee demonstrated competence and readiness for the role. Gen. Musa, who retired just 40 days ago, was nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, with his nomination transmitted to the Senate for urgent consideration.
With his confirmation, Gen. Musa is expected to bring his decades of military experience to bear as he takes on the task of strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture and addressing emerging security challenges across the country.
