Senate President Akpabio Denies Defence Minister-Designate “Bow and Go” Privilege

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday rejected a motion that would have allowed the Minister of Defence nominee, Lt.-Gen. Christopher Musa (retd), to skip full questioning during his confirmation process.

The motion, moved by Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), argued that Gen. Musa’s distinguished military career, including his tenure as Chief of Defence Staff, justified a “take a bow and go” approach.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio denied the motion, stressing that Nigerians deserve hope and that the nominee must answer many questions to ensure transparency and accountability. He emphasized that all nominees, regardless of past service, must undergo thorough screening in line with parliamentary tradition.
