The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs has screened 38 nominees appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the positions of Chairman and Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC). Mrs. Ayo Omidiran from Osun State has been nominated to serve as Chairman of the Commission.
During the screening exercise, lawmakers emphasized the need for the appointees to uphold fairness, equity, and inclusiveness in federal appointments and the distribution of national resources. The committee also conducted thorough due diligence, including verification of security clearances and asset declarations, to ensure transparency and integrity in the selection process.
Senator Allwell Onyeosoh, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character, urged the nominees to champion the principles of federal character and promote balance across Nigeria’s diverse states and communities. The screenings mark a critical step in strengthening governance and reinforcing equitable representation in federal institutions.
