In response to rising insecurity across Nigeria, the Senate has called on the Armed Forces to immediately recruit at least 100,000 additional personnel to strengthen national security.

The resolution, adopted following a motion on Monday’s abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, also mandates the establishment of an ad hoc committee to review the funding, expenditure, and outcomes of the Safe School Programme.

The Senate strongly condemned the abduction, expressing sympathy with the families of the victims, and mourned the recent murder of Brigadier General Uba and other military personnel in Borno State.

Senators emphasized the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect citizens, particularly children, and to support the Armed Forces in their ongoing operations against insurgency and criminal activities.
