Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, the distinguished three-term representative of Oyo North and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport, has formally announced his intention to run for the Oyo State governorship in 2027 under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing supporters and stakeholders in Ibadan on Saturday, Senator Buhari confirmed he will not pursue a fourth term in the Senate, stating that his decision to join the governorship contest is inspired by conviction and faith rather than ambition or pressure.

He urged citizens of Oyo State to prioritize competence and capability over zoning considerations, stressing that the state needs a leader with demonstrable performance and experience.

According to him:
“I have said it that I’m no longer interested in the Senate seat again because I also want to take a shot at the governorship. I am not desperate; I leave it to God, and I am looking unto God to do it for me.

“I want the people of Oyo State to look beyond where a candidate comes from and focus on performance, competence, experience, and the ability to take our state to greater heights.”
