The son of the President, Seyi Tinubu, has debunked reports claiming that he donated ₦20 million to a woman recently arrested by officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) for cooking on a road median in Lekki, Lagos.

In a statement, Seyi Tinubu clarified that while some of his friends, moved by compassion, raised funds to help the woman secure a proper space to run her business, the contribution was not a direct donation from him.

He explained that the gesture was intended to help the woman legally continue her business and not to undermine the enforcement of state laws.

“I have been informed that some friends of mine, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young woman who had an encounter with the law over an environmental violation. Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern,” he said.

Seyi Tinubu, however, emphasized that he does not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State, stressing that the state thrives on order and discipline.

“That said, I must emphasize that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State. Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order,” he added.

He further noted that empathy and patriotism must go hand in hand, urging Nigerians to show compassion in ways that also uphold the rule of law.

“We can support people in need, but we must do so responsibly, in a way that uplifts lives while keeping faith with the rules and values that bind us as a community,” Seyi Tinubu concluded.

The clarification follows viral reports on social media alleging that Seyi Tinubu had personally gifted ₦20 million to the woman after her arrest, a claim he has now dismissed as false.
