On Thursday, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), emphasized the significant milestones achieved by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly in areas impacting the daily lives of Nigerian citizens.

Speaking during the unveiling of an approved program of activities, Akume pointed to the government’s recent efforts to address transportation challenges across the country. He highlighted the launch of the Presidential CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG), which aims to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly transport system. The first phase of the initiative, which rolled out 30 hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, is part of the government’s broader strategy to ease transportation difficulties nationwide.

“This is a work in progress because the Presidential Initiative is designed to expand across all geo-political zones of the country,” Akume stated, noting that the program is expected to be scaled up to benefit more regions soon.

Additionally, Akume announced the commissioning of the first retrofitted CNG-powered train for the Abuja-Kaduna railway line, aimed at reducing travel costs by up to 50% once fully operational. This move is part of the government’s efforts to enhance affordable and sustainable transport infrastructure.

To further encourage the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles, the government has begun distributing CNG conversion kits to citizens at no cost. Akume emphasized that the benefits of the CNG transport system include a substantial reduction in transportation costs for Nigerians, providing much-needed relief amid rising fuel prices.

These initiatives underscore the Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving the everyday lives of citizens, particularly through more affordable and sustainable transportation solutions.
