Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Tinubu at Senegal’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.

Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.

Senegal’s Independence Day: A Historic Celebration

Senegal commemorates its independence from French colonial rule on April 4 each year. The annual celebration is marked by national pride, with parades, cultural events, and official ceremonies.

This year’s event will take place at the iconic Place de la Nation in Dakar, where Senegalese President Bassirou Faye will host Vice President Shettima alongside other distinguished African and global leaders.

Nigeria-Senegal Relations Strengthened

According to Nkwocha, Shettima’s attendance underscores the strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Senegal. He noted that the invitation was personally extended to President Tinubu by President Faye, highlighting the mutual respect and cooperation between both nations.

The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria on Friday after the one-day event. (NAN)
