The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Abdullahi Aliyu-Ahmed, has urged traders to refrain from unjustified food price hikes, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
In his Ramadan message to Nigerian Muslims on Saturday, Aliyu-Ahmed expressed concern over the sharp rise in the cost of groceries and essential food items, barely two days into Ramadan fasting. He warned that such inflationary trends would exacerbate economic hardship for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in Katsina State, Aliyu-Ahmed appealed to traders and Muslims to uphold Islamic principles of fairness, compassion, and social responsibility. He emphasized that Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, devotion to Allah, and acts of kindness toward others.
“While we are observing this important occasion in the spiritual life of Muslims, I urge traders who increase prices at the beginning of every Ramadan to refrain from such exploitation,” Aliyu-Ahmed stated.
The lawmaker further encouraged Muslim faithful to pray for national peace and progress, especially during these challenging times, while dedicating themselves fully to the worship of Almighty Allah.
