Jimmy Kimmel’s return to television may hinge on meeting a set of conditions laid out by Sinclair Broadcast Group, the nation’s largest ABC affiliate owner. Sinclair announced that it would only reinstate Jimmy Kimmel Live! if the late-night host complies with its demands following his controversial remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10.
According to the company, Kimmel must publicly apologize to Kirk’s family and make what it described as a “meaningful personal donation” to both the family and Kirk’s nonprofit, Turning Point USA. The ultimatum comes days after ABC announced that Kimmel’s show would be “indefinitely” pulled from its schedule amid mounting political pressure.
Sinclair’s stance follows growing fallout from Kimmel’s Sept. 15 monologue, in which he criticized efforts by conservatives to distance themselves from Kirk’s accused killer. The remarks sparked outrage among Republican leaders and commentators, intensifying debates over free speech, media censorship, and the politicization of broadcasting in the aftermath of Kirk’s assassination.
