Singapore’s stock market opened sharply lower on Monday, with shares tumbling more than seven percent as fears of a global trade war intensified following China’s retaliatory response to U.S. tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.

The Straits Times Index dropped 7.37 percent, shedding 281.84 points to open at 3,544.02, as markets across Asia experienced widespread sell-offs.
