American-Jamaican singer Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for his involvement in a $1 million fraud scheme that exploited his celebrity status to obtain luxury goods. The 35-year-old artist, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was convicted in March alongside his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud. Turner was sentenced last month to five years in prison.
Prosecutors said Kingston secured high-value items such as a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, luxury watches, and a massive 19-foot LED television using falsified wire transfer receipts and false promises of social media promotion. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Anton described Kingston as a “thief and a conman,” while defense lawyer Zeljka Bozanic argued the singer’s financial mismanagement was to blame and noted that repayment efforts had already begun.
U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz ordered Kingston’s immediate remand following Friday’s sentencing in South Florida, rejecting a request for delayed surrender due to health issues. Kingston and his mother were first arrested in May 2024 during a SWAT raid on his rented Fort Lauderdale mansion. Once a teen star who shot to fame with his 2007 hit Beautiful Girls, Kingston now faces the prospect of rebuilding his life after prison.
