Jannik Sinner claimed his fourth title of the season on Sunday, battling back from a set down to defeat Alexander Zverev in the Vienna Open final.

The Italian dropped his first set of the tournament but rallied to win 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, securing the 22nd title of his career. It marks his second victory in Vienna, having also won the tournament in 2023, and extends his winning streak on indoor hard courts to 21 matches ahead of next week’s final Masters 1000 of the year in Paris.

The top seed faced a tough start as world No. 3 Zverev, who held a 4-3 lead in their previous meetings, claimed the only break of the first set to take control.

“It was such a difficult start for me in this final,” Sinner said. “I went a break down, had some chances in the first set but couldn’t take them. He was serving very well, but I just tried to stay strong mentally and play my best tennis when it mattered.”

Sinner responded by racing to a 3-0 lead in the second set and forced a decider against the 2021 champion.

Despite Zverev saving two break points in the fifth game of the final set, Sinner continued to apply pressure, even as he managed a thigh issue in his first tournament since retiring with cramp at the Shanghai Masters. At 5-5, he fired a powerful backhand down the line to create a break chance and won a long rally to seize the decisive break.

A composed service game sealed victory for the 24-year-old, who has now reached the final in eight of his ten tournaments this season, adding Vienna to titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and Beijing.

“The third set was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I felt the ball well at times, so I pushed through. I’m very happy to win another title,” Sinner added. “It’s very special.”
