Troops of the 1 Brigade of the Joint Task Force Operation Fasan Yamma, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a cache of arms in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The operation, carried out on January 27, 2025, was based on intelligence reports about suspected arms dealers operating from the Niger Republic. This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Operation Fasan Yamma’s Joint Media Centre Coordinator, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi.

“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops launched a covert operation to track the suspects,” Abdullahi stated.

The pursuit unfolded along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi Road, where the suspects attempted to escape by veering off-road into the bush. However, the troops’ tactical response forced them to abandon their vehicle and flee on foot.

A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of:

Two PKT machine guns

Nine AK-47 rifles

13 magazines

171 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

Nine rounds of PKT ammunition

In a related development, the military has intensified efforts to capture notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, who has continued to evade arrest by frequently relocating his hideouts.

Security forces have reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring safety in the region, emphasizing that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend Turji and dismantle criminal networks operating in Zamfara and beyond.
