Southampton have parted ways with manager Ivan Juric following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, the club confirmed on Monday.
Juric’s dismissal comes a day after a 3-1 defeat at Tottenham sealed the Saints’ fate, marking the earliest relegation in Premier League history with seven games remaining. The loss was Southampton’s 25th in 31 league matches during a dismal campaign that sees them bottom of the table.
Juric, who replaced Russell Martin in December, managed just one league victory—against Ipswich in February—during his brief tenure. The team has lost seven of their last eight Premier League fixtures.
In a club statement, Southampton acknowledged Juric’s efforts amid difficult circumstances:
“Ivan came to Southampton at a tough time and was tasked with trying to improve a squad in a difficult situation. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen performances progress the way we had hoped.”
The club added that the decision was made to provide clarity as it looks to rebuild for life in the Championship.
“Despite the challenges that relegation will bring, our goal is to restore a sense of pride for our fans once again.”
Simon Rusk has been appointed interim manager for the remainder of the season, with former Saints midfielder Adam Lallana assisting him.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl—who previously served as assistant under Ralph Hasenhüttl at St Mary’s—is reportedly a frontrunner to succeed Juric. Former Hull City coach Liam Rosenior, now at French side Strasbourg, has also been linked to the role.
Southampton return to action on Saturday with a home fixture against high-flying Aston Villa.
