Sporting Lisbon manager Rúben Amorim has firmly dismissed speculation that star forward Viktor Gyökeres could transfer to Manchester United in the upcoming January window. Speaking to reporters, Amorim emphasized his commitment to Sporting and his respect for the club’s plans, signaling that Gyökeres is expected to stay through the season.
“Viktor has to stay until the end of the season… and then maybe go somewhere else,” Amorim stated, quashing any immediate hopes United might have of bringing the Swedish striker to Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old Gyökeres has been in impressive form, attracting interest from top European clubs, but Amorim stressed that now is not the time to discuss a potential move. “I won’t make any joke about it,” he added. “I respect this club and this is my city.”
Gyökeres’ performance has been pivotal for Sporting, and Amorim’s remarks underscore the club’s desire to retain their key players as they push for success this season.
